Attorney ProfileFrequently asked questions about family law
How long does a divorce take?
An uncontested divorce (both spouses agree) can be finalised in 2–4 months. A contested divorce typically takes 6–18 months, longer in complex cases.
What is joint custody and when will the court approve it?
Joint custody means the child spends roughly equal time with both parents. The court favours it when both parents have good parenting skills, live near each other, and the child agrees.
How is maintenance calculated?
Maintenance is determined individually by the court based on the child's needs and the parent's means. The Ministry of Justice publishes indicative tables (10–30% of net income).
What can I do about domestic violence?
You may apply for an interim measure — the court can order the aggressor's removal from the shared dwelling within 48 hours, for up to one month, with the possibility of extension.
What is marital property settlement?
Marital property ceases upon divorce. Settlement means dividing joint assets and debts. This can be done by agreement or by court. If not settled within 3 years, a statutory presumption applies.
